Can I run Wolfenstein: Youngblood on my computer?

By Cliff Henjum July 15, 2019

Machine Games, in partnership with Arkane Studios, have developed the first modern co-op Wolfenstein game called Wolfenstein: Youngblood. Machine Games is responsible for the rebooted Wolfenstein series, while Arkane Studios is known for their work on Dishonored and Dishonored 2. With a planned release date of July 26, 2019, now is the perfect time to figure out if your computer can run it. Players can choose to play through the story solo or team up with a friend as you pick up the story 19 years after the events in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. BJ Blazckowicz has disappeared in Nazi-occupied Paris so it is now up to his twin daughters, Jessica and Sophia, to pick up the trail and find their father. Prepare for the most open-ended Wolfenstein experience to date as you get to plan how and when to attack which Nazi strongholds. The official system requirements are among some of the highest in the entire PC gaming industry.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is being developed using the id Tech 6 engine, which was first used to develop the rebooted Doom, and has been used on other Wolfenstein titles as well. Because of this, the system requirements have barely changed from The New Colossus to Youngblood, with the only change being the amount of harddrive space needed for the install files (55 GB compared to 40 GB). The developers list multiple CPUs that meet the minimum specs: AMD FX-8350/Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-3570/i7-3770. We have set the requirement at the lower of the two options with those being the FX-8350 and the i5-3570. A beefy GeForce GTX 770 (or AMD equivalent: Radeon HD 7870) is required to pass the minimum video card test. If your PC passes both the minimum CPU and GPU tests, then you should be able to run Wolfenstein: Youngblood on at least Low settings with a smooth FPS.

If its predecessor didn’t exist already, the recommended requirements of Youngblood could be considered the new standard for high-end computers like Crysis 3 was back in the day. In order to play Wolfenstein: Youngblood on High graphics settings with a steady FPS, your computer’s CPU needs to be at least an AMD FX-9370/Ryzen 5-1600X or Intel Core i7-4770. Max out your graphics settings like Shadows and View Distance by equipping a GPU that passes the recommended specs set at the GeForce GTX 1060. One of the only other games that has recommended specs like this is the recently released Rage 2, but you should expect this trend to continue. If you don’t have a computer that passes this recommended requirements test, it is probably time to start saving up for a newer generation of CPU and GPU. Computers are going to also need 16 GB of RAM to pass the recommended requirements for Youngblood.

We will continue to update this page once the full game is released.
