Can my computer play Magic: The Gathering Arena?

Magic: The Gathering Arena is the most recent attempt to bring the turn-based tabletop card game to the digital universe of your computer. This digital version of the classic card game has automated many of the processes that used to bog down online/versus play so duels feel consistently exciting. Another thing that sets MTGA apart from its other predecessors is the fact that it’s not really a Trading Card Game, and it follows the free-to-play microtransaction business model (similar to that of Blizzard’s Hearthstone). Players will have access to a select number of cards to begin their deck-building adventure and can buy booster packs to help bolster their library. The currency needed for the booster packs (Gems) can be earned by completing in game tasks/quests or can be purchased with real-world currency.

A great thing about Magic: The Gathering Arena is its extremely low system requirements. Low system requirements means that a large number of computers will be able to run it and play with at least 30 frames per second. The minimum required GPU is only a GeForce GTX 8800 (or AMD equivalent) and the minimum CPU is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+. The approximate Intel equivalent to that is the Core 2 Duo E7400 which clocks at 2.8 GHz. This means that pretty much any mid-range PC from the last 10 years should be able to run the game fairly well. Compared to one of its direct competitors, Artifact, these requirements are astronomically low which should help open its doors to a larger audience.

If you really want the magical effects and animations to pop while playing on High Settings, then you’ll want to get a PC that’s over the recommended requirements for Magic: The Gathering Arena. A GPU that’s at least as powerful as the GeForce GTX 560 will get you over the recommended video card mark, but you will also need a CPU that is at least an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 clocked at 2.5 GHz. In addition to these major pieces of hardware, you will also need at least 4 GB of RAM. When looking at similar games like Gwent and Hearthstone, MTGA is definitely one of the easier titles to run - even at the higher end. MTGA is currently having an Open Beta period, so there is still a small chance that the system requirements will be altered when the game fully launches.
